Empowerment is one of the pillars that are necessary in order to build a balanced and harmonious lifestyle, as I have realized working as a Holistic Coach aiming at helping women executives and business owners. I created the HEART© Coaching methodology to help women overcome stress, achieve work-family balance, and take back control of their lives. So, women empowerment could not be missing from the HEART© Coaching methodology.
HEART© is an acronym consisting of the 5 components that form the foundation of this methodology: Holistic, Empowerment, Acceptance, Resilience, and Transformation. Read more about the first key factor of HEART©, Holistic, here. In this article, you will see why Empowerment is the second key concept of HEART©.
What is Women Empowerment
Empowerment is a word that is often used in the context of women executives and business owners. It is a powerful concept that is at the heart of creating a more inclusive and equitable workplace. As a holistic coach with 25+ years’ experience in Senior corporate positions as well as demanding entrepreneurial environments, I believe that empowerment starts with self-awareness and self-confidence. Women who are confident in their abilities and aware of their strengths are more likely to take risks and pursue their goals with passion and enthusiasm.
Empowerment also means creating a supportive environment where women can thrive and succeed. This can be achieved when women invest and believe in themselves, in order to pursue further training and development opportunities and promote a culture of diversity and inclusion. Women in the business world need to make sure that they have the support and resources they need to succeed, and that their voices are heard and valued.
The HEART© Concept of Empowerment
Empowerment recognizes that individuals have the power to create their own reality and that they can achieve their goals by taking action and making choices that support their aspirations. The Empowerment principle of the HEART© Coaching methodology provides a framework for women to develop the skills and strategies they need to take control of their lives and achieve their goals. This means that I work with the client to help her develop a sense of self-efficacy and control over her life. I help her identify her strengths, values, and goals, and work with her in order to develop a plan to achieve those goals.
Science and Empowerment
Studies have shown that empowerment-based interventions can lead to improved self-esteem, self-efficacy, and decision-making skills. A study published in the Journal of Health Psychology in 2015 found that an empowerment-based intervention for patients with chronic pain led to improved self-efficacy and reduced pain severity.
Another study published in the Journal of Psychosocial Nursing and Mental Health Services in 2019 found that an empowerment-based intervention for individuals with severe mental illness led to improved decision-making skills and increased self-efficacy.
Finally, a study published in the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology in 2014 found that an empowerment-based intervention for survivors of intimate partner violence led to improved self-esteem and self-efficacy.
